Why go to Thailand? Top 4 reasons to visit the Land of Smiles

5:00 AM

A smile can go a long way, and yes, you will find more smiles in Thailand than anywhere else. Because of the country’s friendly people, Thailand is often called the “Land of Smiles" making it one of the most fascinating and welcoming countries in the world. Here are the top four reasons why you travel to Thailand:

1. Stunning temples:

Being a Buddhist country, temples play very active part in the everyday life of Thai people.

Thai’s come to the temples not just to pray to Buddha for health and good fortune, but also to speak with the monks. For tourists, the impressive structures of the different temples here have become magnets for them to visit.

Although you should probably visit every temple that comes in your way, there are some temples you should not miss like those I mentioned in my previous post.

2. Fascinating art and crafts:

Thailand's art and crafts are woven into the country's rich cultural heritage. Through their art and crafts, you will realize that Thai's pay attention to detail and creativity. Some of these are very prominent in their lacquerware, ceramics, wooden crafts, and clothing.

3. Mouth-watering dishes:

Let your tummy be filled with the yummiest flavours in Asia. From street food, either served from a food cart or stalls with tables on the side; to floating markets; local restaurants; or food court at shopping centers... Thailand dishes are sure feast for food lovers.

4. Efficient transportation:

Thailand has different modes of transport to meet everyone’s needs.

For one, Bangkok's taxi system is very reliable. Thanks to the meter system and the Grab app, calling a taxi at any time of the day is definitely easier.

Did you know that Bangkok also has an overground and underground train network? So if you want to avoid the hassle of the city traffic, you can always take the BTS Skytrain or the MRT Subway. The BTS and MRT intersect at various points allowing passengers from both lines greater variety when it comes to their choice of destination.

Since part of our Thailand itinerary was to go North, we have experienced the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We took the second class train cabin of Trains 9 and 10 because it's definitely a cheaper option. A curtain is installed at every berth so that passengers can have a little bit of privacy. Plus, plug socket and reading light are also available for every berth so you won't have to worry about charging and laptops, as well as reading throughout the train ride.

If you want to experience Thai's most indigenous mode of transport, then Tuk Tuk is the option. It is a three-wheeled vehicle that is popular in many Southeast Asian countries although it has a different name in each country. For some, they find it very tedious to bargain over the fare but I recommend you should go take at least one ride. We were lucky when we tried the Tuk Tuk because the driver was so friendly. We were amazed when he instantly recognized us as Filipinos. According to him, Filipinos always bargain for the lowest fare compared to Americans, Russians, Chinese, Koreans, and Malaysians.
